For this discussion, select one agent of socialization and
describe a specific norm that one might learn from that source. Be
sure to describe the process of how the norm you chose is learned
and internalized. Then, discuss how the norm might influence a
particular social role.
In response to your peers, discuss whether or not you agree with
your peers’ assessment of how the norm influences the social role,
or build on their posts to describe an additional social role
related to the norm they discussed.
Socialization is a process where we become social human beings.people learn characteristics from group norms, beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviours. If we consider parents and family,a child would learn nuances of proper behaviour, what is expected out of them to be a accepted member in the society. The child interacts with family and friends and aquires socialization by the age of adulthood. There are three levels of socialization, primary socialization begins at birth and moves forward till beginning of school years.Media is a influencing socialization agent for a child as it watches television from as early as they are 2 years and move on to computers.secondary socialization occurs in later childhood and adoloscence where peers have more influence than parents.Adult socialization is when we assume adult roles in a family or society. For example a social norm where we associate a man to be the breadwiner of the family and the woman to assume the role as taking care of family, cleaning and cooking. These norms are learned from our culture ,our parents and family influences teach us these norms. we tend to follow them to be accepted in our society.
