3. Hydrogen is less electronegative than oxygen and nitrogen. Explain how this difference effects life. Mention water, DNA, proteins…. (8pts
Question
2. The seven properties common to all living organism are following :
I. Have the ability to reproduce.
II. Response to the environment.
III. Have the ability to maintain internal homeostatis.
IV. Show growth and development .
V. Have metabolism.
VI. Require fuel and oxygen to survive.
VII. Energy processing.
The fire is although have some property of living things like :
I. It can grow.
II. It needs fuel and oxygen.
But fire is not considered as living beings because it is not having rest 5 characteristic of the living organism.
3. Water is a polar molecule. Water have hydrogen atom which is electropositive atom and oxygen atom which is electronegative atom. So it lead to the assymetrical distribution of electrons and therefore hydrogen atom get positive charge and oxygen atom get negative charged. Also, hydrogen form polar bond with other electronegative atom like nitrogen and chlorine. This nature of hydrogen and electronegative atom lead to formation of water. All organisms whether it is a plant or animal require water to break down food and release energy during cellular respiration. This energy is required by all cells to perform various cellular activities. Also water is important to regulate metabolism and help in excreting unwanted waste from the organism body. The hydrogen bond is require give the stability to the DNA structure and proteins that are the biomolecules present in all living organism to survive.
