Explain the field of criminology
This might be a simplification, but in terms devoid of hard jargons, this is what an overview of criminology is: just as we study various cultures across the world and society and the genesis of civilizations in anthropology, we study all of that, but in context and interjection of the phenomena of crime: that is, we study crime across cultures and society to see and comprehend what motivates a criminal and his/her consequent criminal activity; while simultaneously trying to gauge the various disparities as well as the similarities that crimes exhibit across cultures and societies.
Criminology is the synergy of Psychology Sociology and Philosophy.
A very good example and a beginning into the insight of behavioral sciences and crime studies would be the new TV series by David Fincher called Mindhunter that can provide insight into the genesis of this field and the way it works and functions.
