Describe house wiring and specify how parallel or series connections of bulbs and resistors affect the functions.Write in own words and at least one paragraph.

Expert Solution

A house wiring will usually have a parallel schematic. In a house, there are many appliances that have to run independent of each other. Fault in one appliance should not affect the other working appliances in any way. This can not be accomplished in a series circuit. Futhermore, if we put all the bulbs, resistors or appliances in series, then turning one of them off will turn off all the other appliances as well. Also, In series, the potential difference across appliances will vary depending on the resistance of the appliance. Talking about resistance, the resistance of all the appliances will add up in series circuit , thereby increasing the power required

Howeever, this is not the case with parallel wiring. In parallel circuit, if one bulb gis fused then other bulbs will keep working. Further, This limits the current from anywhere near 10 A, which is standard and off the shelf switches are available. In case of emergencies and failures, it is possible to isolate one room / section and continue to work in other sections / rooms. In parallel wiring, the resistance is decreased considerably and less power is required for same amps of current.
