There are a number of descriptive statistics that could be used to describe data from a study. Name and define at least 5
Solution : -
Descriptive statistics are :-
1) Mean
2) Median
3) Mode
4) Range
5) Variance
6) Standard Deviation
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Mean -- The statistical mean refers to the mean or average that is used to derive the central tendency of the data in question. It is determined by adding all the data points in a population and then dividing the total by the number of points. The resulting number is known as the mean or the averageThe symbol 'μ' represents the population mean. The symbol 'X bar' represents the Sample mean.
2) Median -- The median is the middle value when a data set is ordered from least to greatest.
3) Mode -- The mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set.
4) Range -- The range is the most obvious measure of dispersion and is the difference between the lowest and highest values in a dataset. The range is useful for showing the spread within a dataset and for comparing the spread between similar datasets.
5) Variance -- statistics, variance is the expectation of the squared deviation of a random variable from its mean. Informally, it measures how far a set of (random) numbers are spread out from their average value.
Variance for Ppulation (σ square)and sample ( s square) can be calculated by using below formula.
6) Standard Deviation -- In statistics, the standard deviation (SD, also represented by the lower case Greek letter sigma σ for the population standard deviation or the Latin letter s for the sample standard deviation) is a measure of the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of values.
