Should student-athletes be paid
Sport is a vital organ of the society. There are numerous benefits to be reaped off from it. Entertaining the mass, fitness of the people, etc. but most important the lessons it teaches about life. I strongly believe in a society where academics and sports are given equal respect and opportunities. When it comes to learning, I would put sports next to books. Discipline is one of the major outcomes of it. Whether we talk about physical or mental, for s sportsperson discipline is a holy grail. We learn to win and also to lose, which is most of the time, a neglected offering of sports. Moving on to the entertainment, well where there is entertainment there is money. Pondering over the above-mentioned points, it brings me to the question in hand: Should student-athletes be paid?
Yes, they should definitely and have multiple reasons to justify but let us focus on the major reasons:
1. It will encourage sports among the young generation resulting in a sports-oriented society, where the sports culture is valued. In today's' world, money matters and defines the degree of respect a particular field can have.
2. It will help the underprivileged students to provide for their education and support their family, making their life way easier.
Now, let's look at the financial impact:
1. A paid student-athlete will bring on money circulation in the economy
2. Since being paid, education loan can be reduced making their leverage position leaner
3. Paying student-athletes, as mentioned above will promote sports among younger generation resulting in booming of the sports industry, resulting in more sale of equipment which in turn favors the manufacturing sector
4. A paid student is a blessing for Parents as they have to spend less, making their savings more. Increase in their savings improves the deposits, which in turns helps the economy in terms of investment. Also, they can plan their future better. More the money in hand, merrier the investment
5. Teaches the student to manage their finance from an early age making them independent
