- The Athlete compensation student presentation asked if compensating student athletes for more than room and board is ethical. What is your personal stance on this issue? Provide a thorough explanation.
To be honest, there is no doubt college Athletes brings a lot for the college they have been enrolled in along with maintaining their grades with the quality sports life, they seem to be the inspirations for many for being a person to achieve holistic interpersonal development approach inside and outside the college. However, if their athletic encouragement lies in the monetary benefits, then they have their aims wrongly targeted. In college, their education is already supported by various scholarship schemes and relaxed admission norms due to their sports achievement.
The college or school level sports aim is to develop their student life with holistic development through studies, sports, analytical abilities, interpersonal skills or in-short to prepare them to be a better person for their life and society. Indulging the college athletes in getting paid will encourage them towards greed of money instead of focusing both in studies and sports. This might lead to scams, money greed, lower focus in studies, disrespecting others who are not earning. The tournaments or the matches played by college athletes already have the prize money and trophies for the encouragement and incentives plus the fame and respect which they get by winning. Therefore, in my view, there is no need for college athletes to be entitled for getting paid.
