Solutions

Expert Solution

                    HClO ------------> H^+ (aq) + ClO^-

    I                0.265                   0                0

   C                -x                        +x               +x

    E              0.265-x                  +x               +x

                   Ka   = [H^+][ClO^-]/[HClO]

                  2.9*10^-8   = x*x/(0.265-x)

                  2.9*10^-8*(0.265-x) = x^2

                  x   = 8.76*10^-5

                 {H+]   =   x   = 8.76*10^-5 M

                  PH   = -log[H+]

                           = -log8.76*10^-5

                            = 4.0574
