Topic 4: Central nervous system.
For the brain structure/ areas below, provide the following information
-Location
-General function
-Example of when the structure/ area would be active
-A disease/ disorder that affects the structure/ area, and why physiology dysfunction this would result in structures/ areas
(must complete all )
Auditory association area
Prefrontal association area
Basal ganglia
Pineal gland
Medulla oblongata
Auditory association cortex-
Location-temporal area.wernickes area 22
General function-processing of various signal like speech, music.
When someone will talk or perform music it will be active.
In aphasia condition, it will be affected.
Prefontal association cortex-
Location -frontal lobe.
General function-it process the sensory signals like taste ,smell and internal control and cooperation memory or attention
When you will decide on a particular thing and and execute a function or you give attention to a particular thing ,it will be activated.
Frontal lobe disorder affect this area.
Basal ganglia
Location-it is present in the junction between the midbrain and forebrain.
Function- control of voluntary motor movement, eye movements , cognition.
It will be activated when you have to control your motor muscle movements.
In Parkinson's disease the basal ganglion is affected .
Pineal gland --
Location-it is present in junction of hemisphere and in epithalamus.
General function- it is mainly responsible for sleep wakefulness cycle
Pineal gland becomes activated mainly in evening .
Pineal gland dysfunction can be associated with its damage.
Madulla oblongata
It is located below the pond and on above the spinal cord.
It is associated with various cardiorespiratory function.
When, you will do exercise and heart have to beat first and more oxygen is required ,this area will be activated more.
Parkinson's disease can affect the Function of this brain stem area.
