How are bacteria benefited in the process of water treatment even if they act as a catalyst?
Saprophytic bacteria is much very important for the water treatment process. This saprophytic bacteria consumes the organic components. This bacteria convert the organic components into carbon di oxide, living cell mass and a range of metabollic by products and after decomposition of organic compounds the water free from organic compounds have contains live bacteria in it, this is called activated sludge. Some of this water contain live bacteria again send to the previous (aeration) tank for further decomposition of organic compounds. As, we know in any chemical reaction before and after the reaction , there is no change in the catalyst and we again retain the catalyst after the reaction, as same bacteria is acted like catalyst in the water treatment process.
