1. Fortified foods are foods that have been enriched with extra nutrients as a means to decrease nutrient deficiencies around the world, especially in underdeveloped and rural countries. Populations in these places may lack essential nutrients. Fortification also helps to eliminate the expense of transporting perishable foods to remote parts of the world. The most common types of food that are fortified include milk & dairy products; cereals and cereal-based products; fats and oils; tea & other beverages; & infant formulas. For example, the most commonly fortified foods are milk enriched with Vitamin D; breakfast cereal is majorly fortified with iron, pasta is fortified with folic acid, Cereals & bread are also fortified with B vitamins & iron; Cereals, grain, rice, and oil are enriched in Vitamin A.
