A psychologist is testing a new drug for its painkilling effects. He wants to know if this drug will reduce the amount of pain experienced. He randomly selects 5 people who regularly experience pain. He has each person rate their pain level. Then, the subjects take the new pain medication and rate their pain levels 1 hour later. Their data is as follows:

After medication |

What can the psychologist conclude about the medicine? Assume an alpha level of .01.
a. What type of t-test will you use to answer this question? Why did you choose this test?
b. Use the five steps of hypothesis testing to answer the question.
c. Write up your conclusion as if it were for a publication
Above problem is solved using paired t test, because the samples are dependent.
As we fail to reject H0 at 1% los, we can conclude that the claim is false that the drug will reduced the amount of pain experienced.
