Emmanuel Richardson is a college student who is planning to attend several upcoming professional events. Each event will require the purchase of a suit and accessories costing between $100 and $200. Alice decides to purchase the suits and accessories on her credit card wear them to the events, and then return them for a full refund the following week.
1. Comment on the ethics of Emmanuel's plan? is there a problem with the plan, provide alternative plan(s)
The plan framed by Emmanuel is undoubtedly an unethical one, though not illegal.
What she did was taking unscrupulous advantage of consumer-friendly store policies. These policies work on a binding trust between the customer and the shopkeeper. They’ve to maintain the essence of faith in it.
Buying and returning clothes in this manner definitely crosses an ethical line. Shops end up making no money from these sorts of mischiefs. Buy-and-return shopping removes an item from the shelves that might otherwise sell, especially during shopping seasons. Such activities also lack moral values. They waste the efforts the sales staff put in making the sale and thus end up losing their commission they would’ve actually earned too. Thus, Emmanuel ended up making an unethical plan.
The alternative plan could be buying suits and accessories from any Clothing Rental services or may be borrow from any of her friend.
