1. How might a skew in the age distribution of one species impact a whole community?
2. What are some benefits and drawbacks of generational overlap within species?
1) Age distribution of one species in the community effects on economic growth. Depending on the age ranges at which the changes occur, an ageing population may thus result in lower interest rates and the economic benefits of lower inflation. Because elderly people are more inflation averse, countries with more elderly tend to exhibit lower inflation rates.
2)
Benefits of generational overlap within species:
An advantage of overlapping generations can be found in the different experience levels of generations in a population. The younger age group will be able to acquire social information from the older and more experienced age groups. Overlapping generations can, similarly, promote altruistic behaviour.
Drawbacks of overlapping generational:
i) They create stress for some members.
ii) They are not closely knit.
iii) They have psychologic problems.
iv) They have developmental problems.
