Your friend states that the enforcement of copyright law in the music industry is bad for consumers because it prevents them from being able to access, download, and trade music freely. How might you attempt to explain the benefits to consumers of copyright protection of music?

Solutions

Expert Solution

As we have now understood the subtle differences between the four, the benefits of copyright in music are as follows:-

  • Without copyright laws the artist who produces a music will not be given the fair value of their artistic work, this, in turn, would reduce their incentive to further produce music. The same would happen for distributors of music, as they would not be able to sell the music recorded in the market for a suitable price they would not be able to pass on the benefit to the singer, all this would set in to motion a vicious circle and creation of substandard quality of music because of singers not getting the due value for their creation.
