An estimation of 12 Million Africans were traded as slaves in the trans- Atlantic slave trade ifrom 16th to 18th century. Under this majority of these traded slaves were used for plantations through out the United States, Latin America and Carebia. Black children experienced enslavement as follows:

  • Black children found enslaved as prisoners of warfare.
  • When men were killed in battle, women and children become more vulnerable and these childrens are sold for slavery.
  • In some areas of West Africa kidnapping was a popular method of acquiring children
  • Some parents sold children who were in poor health, require special needs or perceiveda as evil spirit.
  • Growthrate among slave child wereb extremely low.
  • Slave children grew up apart from their father either because he lived on another plantation, has been sold away or was white.

On large plantations infants and very young children were supervised and cared by adults other than their parents.
