Compare covid19 with influenza. How are these viruses similar? How are they different with regard to disease transmission? How are they different in other way?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There is a lot of similarities between covid 19 and influenza few of them are as follows.

Similarities between Covid 19 and Influenza they both.

  • Affect the respiratory system.
  • Causes fever, cough, body aches and fatigues
  • can be fatal in some cases
  • can result in pneumonia
  • can spread by an infected person for several days before their symptoms appear.
  • both of them are not treatable with antibiotics which only work on bacterial infection.

The DIfference with regard to disease transmission- While both of them may be transmitted in similar way ways, Covid 19 might spread from droplets remaining in the air even if the ill person is no longer near.

The difference regarding other ways

  • Covid 19 is caused by one virus called SARS-CoV-2 while influenza is caused by different strains of influenza viruses.
  • No vaccine available for Covid 19 but vaccine is available for some types of influenza.
  • Ftality rate of Covid 19 is higher than influenza.

1) You are exposed to influenza viruses, and alas, you have not yet had your influenza vaccine this year! Unfortunately, the viruses manage to bind successfully to epithelial cells in your nasal passageways, initiating an infection. a) Follow the pathway of a single virus as it initiates its infection, resulting in the production of numerous virus particles. b) Describe your immune system and its response: both innate (first line, that was breached, and second line of defense) and adaptive.
