Family and Medical Leave Act
This Act is a part of Labor law that requires employers to provide employees with job protection and unpaid leave for medical and family related reasons. The reasons could be family sickness, pregnancy, adoption, etc.
There are certain clauses that are necessary to be fulfilled in order for the employer to comply and the employees to be eligible for this leave.
Employers
This act applies to organizations or teams that had 50+ employees in the at least 20 weeks in the previous year. Public agencies and local education bodies are not restricted by this threshold of 50+ employees.
Employees
This act applies to employees who have worked at least 25 hours per week (annual 1250 hours) last year. The employee may be part-time or full-time worker but must satisfy the work hour requirement.

The employees can have up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave upon satisfying the above conditions.
