Q5 review and critique the effectiveness of theories, concepts and models such as Kaizen, Six sigma, TQM and Lean Management when applied in the PLC of the Extension of Metro to Sharjah project. M4 Critically analyze how the use of these models and theories will differentiate between a large and small project.
Critically evaluate how the Metro Extension project can be viable and effective.
Kaizen:
Kaizen is a japanese word which means continuous improvement to business process. It approaches to small improvement to business or manufacturing process which result in terms of cost saving, Quality improvement and productivity improvement.
Metro project is very large scale project which having some big capital investment, large Numer of manpower and equipment & machinery associated. So any small improvement in business process can benefit to the organization in terms of cost. Some improvements are short term and some of long term improvement which makes the process better.
Six Sigma:
Six sigma is approach for quality improvement of product and services until it tends to near about zero defect. According to six sigma, It should be 3.4 defects out 1 million production quantity.
Metro is very critical project for safety and emergency point of view. It has no chance for mistakes during construction, Installation and manufacturing of parts. Defects can be cause of any mishappening in future. So six sigma application in metro project can be very effective.
Six sigma always apply for large scale production unit and business unit. Large scale business unit follow the six sigma to reduce the defects.
TQM (Total Quality management) :
Total quality management is a management approach to focus on continuous quality improvement by feedback system. it is applicable to all industry types and large or small scale unit. it has various principle which apply on organization to make better quality product for their customers.
Metro is a government project but it is depends upon various vendors, suppliers and third party manufacturing companies. so government always try to improve the quality of product by improving the process of supplier, vendors and manufacturer. TQM can be best applicable on these to make workplace better and produce a better quality product.
TQM concept is best applicable all small and large scale organization for better quality result.
Lean Management:
Lean management also word to minimize the waste which impact the productivity. Lean management works for cost reduction and effective delivery schedule. According to Lean Management that "manage effective delivery schedule of supplier & customer and maintain a constant work in process in manufacturing unit for continious cash flow".
Metro is a very large project so that continuous cash flow from organization to supplier and customer to organization is very important. Metro project having very large size raw material and space is a constraints. So continious reduction of inventory through lean project can solve space problems.
Lean project is very effective to large scale organization because it works to reduce the inventory size and makes the cash flow better.
