There are different nonverbal communication differences in the given situation. The first difference is the difference in the nature of eye contact. In the USA, the eye contact between two individuals talking to each other is considered very good and proves the truthfulness. But, in china, there is a significant power distance between manager and subordinate. Due to this reason, subordinates, don't make eye contact with the boss. It is the reason that Ching Wu always looked down. It was due to the cultural impact, rather showing disrespect to the manager. The second nonverbal difference is the body language and hand shake that is very open and with contact in the USA even if it is between the employer and employee. But, it is not the case in China. Subordinate maintain a distance and strictly follow the traditional ways of nonverbal communication that does not allow him to contact or hand shake so often when meeting together. So, manager in the US bookstore, should understand the differences and make necessary adjustment with the employee of Chinese background.
