  1. A force acts at the origin in a direction defined by the angles uy 5 65° and uz 5 40°. Knowing that the x component of the force is 2750 N, determine (a) the other components and the magnitude of the force, (b) the value of ux

Solutions

Expert Solution

let the force be "F"

Component of F in X-Y plane = F Sinuz = F Sin5.40

Component of F along Y-direction = (F Sin5.40) Cosuy = (F Sin5.40) Cos5.65

Component of F along X-direction = (F Sin5.40) Sinuy = (F Sin5.40) Sin5.65

Given that X-component = 2750

so (F Sin5.40) Sin5.65 = 2750

F = 296813 N

Component of F along Y-direction = (F Sin5.40) Cos5.65 = (296813 Sin5.40) Cos5.65 = 27797 N

Component of F along z-direction = F Cos5.40 = 27797 Cos5.40 = 27673.64 N

ux = 90 - uy = 90 - 5.65 = 84.35

A ball is thrown eastward into the air from the origin (in the direction of the positive x-axis). The initial velocity is 50 i + 80 k, with speed measured in feet per second. The spin of the ball results in a southward acceleration of 8 ft/s2, so the acceleration vector is a = −8 j − 32 k. Where does the ball land?
