In engineering Design the first step is Identifying the problem. In detal can you please explain this step to me and give one example that the outcome was unsuccessful because the problem wasn't not identified correctly.
Basically problem identification requires following questions to be answered:
1)Who?-would need it.
2)What?- is needed.
3)When?-it is needed.
4)Where?-it is needed.
5)Why?-it is neded.
6)How many?- are needed.
Take an example of a faucet handle which is to be turned CW/CCW to ON/OFF the faucet. Now people have complaint that the handle slips when operated with soapy and wet hands. Now due to some miscommunication with the market survey team there are some suggestions for handle which are more aesthetically pleasing than the present ones and economically good but these are also going to slipped with wet and soapy hands. If these handles are designed and replaced with the old ones this would be called as the unsuccessful identification of problem.
