Let us understand the term performance practice and its importance - The term "performance practice" refers to the study of how music was performed in the composer's own day.
Research in this area has focused especially on earlier periods like the Middle Ages where fewer other primary source materials survived but also encompasses later periods up through the early twentieth century
For the duration of the medieval period, most music would be composed primarily in perfect tempos, with special effects created by sections of imperfect tempos.
A) Performance practice of the Medieval
The music theory of the Medieval period saw several advances over previous practice both in regard to tonal material, texture, and rhythm.
Concerning rhythm, this period had several dramatic changes in both its conception and notation.
During the early Medieval period there was no method to notate rhythm, and thus the rhythmical practice of this early music is subject to heated debate among scholars.
The first kind of written rhythmic system developed during the thirteenth century and was based on a series of modes.
B) Performance practice of the Renaissance
Instrumentation and Tone Color The human voice, in solo and ensemble, was the most commonly accepted medium of performance for all Renaissance music Voices were reinforced by instruments of all kinds.
The organ, harpsichord, and clavichord were used independently. String and wind ensembles became increasingly popular.
C) Performance practice of the Baroque Periods
In the Baroque period, composers expected musicians to add ornamentation, including trills, mordents, turns, appoggiaturas, grace notes, passing tones, etc.
Use of vibrato was also considered an ornament. In addition to adding ornamentations, performers were expected to improvise, especially on cadences

In the visual arts, composition is often used interchangeably with various terms such as design, form, visual ordering, or formal structure, depending on the context. In graphic design for press and desktop publishing, composition is commonly referred to as page layout.
