The Renaissance was a cultural movement spanning between the
14th and 17th centuries. It began in Florence in Italy in the Late
Middle Ages and spread to various parts of Europe later.
The Reformation on the other hand was the European Christian
reform movement which established Protestantism as a branch of
Christianity.
Renaissance is generally used to refer to the historic era and
cultural era whereas the term Reformation is used to refer to the
religious era.
The main difference between Renaissance and Reformation is that
the former started at Florence and ended spreading in different
parts of Europe, whereas the latter spread only to the northern
Europe.
Renaissance paved the way for the advancement in art and
architecture, whereas the Reformation paved the way for religious
fragmentation.
The basic similarity between the two is that both are
associated with European transformation.
Both were encouraging people to ask questions, to learn, to
decide their own future. at this time period the catholic church
was in nearly complete control of people's day to day lives.
The great intellectual movement of Renaissance was humanism.
The humanists believed that the Greek and Latin classics contained
all the lessons one needed to lead a moral and effective life and
the best models for a powerful Latin style.
Humanism, to a very large extent, resulted in the Reformation.
People began to realize that they could change things by speaking
out, and that others would follow them.Humanism was a very large
part of Reformation in Germany. The people in Germany used the idea
of humanism greatly to make a change in the church. They
disapproved of the clerical immunities and ecclesiastial abuses, so
they decided to make a change. They wanted the church to be
different and focus on the well being of God, as well as the
people.
