Contribution of Renaissance to Western Society
Renaissance means "rebirth" or "reawakening". It refers to the period of growth in art, science, music, religion and self-awareness. There were several new discoveries and inventions in this period, which helped in reshaping the western society. New inventions paved the way for further advancements. This cultural movement began initially in Italy and later spread throughout Europe.
America was discovered by Columbus. Printing press was introduced by Gutenberg. Books could now be produced in large volumes in less time, which was not possible earlier. New style of painting emerged. Oil painting used strong colours which could survive for many centuries. Many scientific discoveries were made in the area of astronomy. Galileo invented first refracting telescope and discovered moons of Jupiter, observed the phases of Venus, studied Saturn and sunspots on the Sun. Various new instruments like anemometer, thermoscope, violen were invented during this period. Toricelli invented barometer.
According to me, invention of the printing press was the most important contribution of the Renaissance to the Western Society and one of its defining moments as well.
In this way, Renaissance changed the western society and caused it to lead towards modernity.
