3.describe completely an ?-keratin structure like hair explain what is holding the ? helical structures together and what type of interaction holds ?-keratin, is a type coil together . hair and animals horns are made up of a ?-keratin, structure but they obviously have different properties explain how this is possible
4.in fetal hemoglobin the important Ser on the y chain mutates to Cyc why ?
5.in collagen triplex helix all hydroxylsine was altered to Ala why e?
6.In myoglobin HisF8 was changed to Trp, what are the consequences of this ?
Ans 3) Keratin is an important protein which is present majorly in hair and is responsible for different hair texture. The fibrous protein forms the main structural constituents of hair, feathers, hoofs etc. The protein protects the epithelial cells from damage and stress and it is insoluble in water. The monomers assemble together to form bundles that form the intermediate filaments which are tough and it forms strong bonds. They are supercoil molecules that form the stable structure and consist of multiple monomer forming the filaments. The most important force which keeps the super coiled structure hydrophobic is the apolar residues along with the keratins helical segments. The bond apart from the intra and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds also have strong disulphide bonds which helps in providing additional strength and rigidity through stable cross linking.
Ans 4) When in the fetal hemoglobin the Ser on the Y-chain mutates to the cyc, the cell is suffering from sickle cell hemoglobin. In this the hemoglobin which is responsible of carrying oxygen is not able to deliver right amount of oxygen to the fetus.
