Dunaliella salina is a type of halophile green microalgae especially found in sea salt fields. It is known for its antioxidant activity because of its ability to create large amount of carotenoids. It is also used in cosmetics and dietary supplements. Besides that there are very few negative aspects of D. salina. Dunaliella salina is the main source for natural β-carotene. The green microalga can produce and accumulate beta-carotene under stress conditions such as high light intensity, high salinity, and nutrient deficiency up to a concentration of 10% of its dry weight. So for this production of beta-carotene, we have been using photo bioreactor method. Photobioreactors were used for culturing the photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae, cyanobacteria, plant cells, and photosynthetic bacteria, for various biotechnological applications. The main disadvantages of this organism is it needs a long light-path, it has severe dodging actions among algae cells, it excessively depend upon the local weather, low utilization ratio of atmospheric CO2 and it can be easily contaminated.
