3. Listed below are the phenotypes of the offspring from a pizza self fertilization experiment regarding the traits of toppings and crust thickness. Yeah that’s right, in my dream world pizza can self fertilize. AND THEN I EAT IT ALL.
offspring phenotype |
# of offspring |
cheese, thin crust |
67 |
veggie delight, thin crust |
22 |
cheese, thick crust |
197 |
veggie delight, thick crust |
64 |
What is the dominant phenotype for pizza toppings?
OK. So, in looking at these data, do you think these genes are linked or unlinked? Briefly explain how you arrived at that conclusion.
So if you did a dihybrid testcross with your dihybrid, what would the phenotypic ratio be?
Dominant phenotype for pizza toppings - Cheese ( dominant phenotypes appear more than that of recessive phenotype)
Genes are not linked. If genes are linked the possible phenotypes that occur due to recombinations will be very less. That's if 197 off springs have Cheese and thick crust, these traits donod split up and produce recombinants like cheese and thin crusts.
Let's cheese be C and thick crust be T, let's veggie crust be c and thin crust be t
Test cross : phenotypic ratio = 9:3:3:1
