Question 3 (1 point)
Which of the following correctly lists the compounds in order of increasing boiling point?
Question 3 options:

1)

CCl₄(l) < NH₃(l) < N₂(l)

2)

N₂(l) < CCl₄(l) < NH₃(l)

3)

CCl₄(l) < N₂(l) < NH₃(l)

4)

NH₃(l) < N₂(l) < CCl₄(l)

5)

NH₃(l) < CCl₄(l) < N₂(l)

ii. The secondary structures of proteins are due to hydrogen bonding.
Question 4 options:

1)

i only

2)

ii only

3)

both i and ii

4)

neither i or ii

Solutions

Expert Solution

(1) The boiling point of the compound can be compared by seeing the relative strength of intermolecular force. The relative strength of intermolecular forces are =Hydrogen bonding> dipole-dipole> London dispersion force and higher will be the strength then higher will be the boiling point of the compound and if the intermolecular force is same then we will see the molecular weight of the compound higher will be it's molecular weight higher will be the boiling point of the compound so here In NH3 hydrogen bonding is present that and other have dispersion forces that means NH3 have higher boiling point and after that we will se the molecular weight so CCl4 have higher boiling point than N2 so the correct order is NH3> CCl4> N2 so option (2) is correct.

(2) No hydrogen bonding can also be occur if there is nitrogen like we can see in NH3 so this statement is not true.

Yes secondary structure of protein is due to hydrogen bonding between the oxygen and hydrogen of different amino acid that means this statement is correct

So (2 ) option is true only

I hope you understand
