What is the cultural and psychological impact of having ghosts disproved by science?
Culturally speaking ghosts are the ones that keeps Gods alive. Good and evil are the two coins of the world as God and ghost. There are also good ghosts and bad ghosts because not everyone who die become ghosts and there is no separate thing as ghosts. We celebrate all souls day because we think they are all good souls. There is also Halloween day to drive out the evil spirits. All the religious festivals revolve around driving the bad ghosts away. That’s why people take Gods in procession, so disproving ghost would also disprove Gods. Ghosts are also part and parcel of some society without which, those people would become ghosts. Those cultures even have ghost riders in different names such as shamans, poojaari, priests etc.
Psychologically speaking, people are very much attached to ghosts because they like the ghosts to be real without affecting them. Even the little children are very much attached to the ghosts that they are afraid while watching ghost movies but they close their face and watch the entire movie through the gap between the fingers. People will lose the thrill of darkness, staying alone etc.
