Expert Solution

According to the given trend of ionization energies the first 2 electrons are removed easily with less expenditure of energy which means that this element has 2 valence electrons.

Third and successive electrons requires enormous amount of ionization energies which means that these electrons are removed from very stable noble gas configuration.

This element has 2 valence electrons and it must belong to group 2 of the periodic table.

Answer -- Group 2
