What is a reporter gene construct? b. Where did the reporter gene come from? What is its normal biological function? c. How was the expression of the reporter gene controlled? d. What information did the use of the reporter construct give the investigators?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The reporter gene construct contains one or more gene regulatory elements to be analyzed, the sequence for the reporter gene, and the sequences required for the transcription of functional mRNA.

B) To introduce a reporter gene into an organism, scientists place the reporter gene and the gene of interest in the same DNA construct to be inserted into the cell or organism. For bacteria or prokaryotic cells in culture, this is usually in the form of a circular DNA molecule called a plasmid.

C) Reporter genes are genes whose products can be readily assayed subsequent to transfection, and can be used as markers for screening successfully transfected cells, for studying regulation of gene expression, or serve as controls for standardizing transfection efficiencies.

D) Reporter gene expression is controlled by a promoter for a separate gene of interest.

E) Construct provide information if the endogenous protein is directly assayed.

Hope it's clear to you now if not please mention in comment I'll help. I'm suppose to answer first four bit I've solved all of them.

Reporter genes are used to report on the expression of the gene of interest.
Reporter genes are used to report on the expression of the gene of interest. Please select all correct statements regarding how reporter genes are engineered by recombinant DNA technology. Multiple correct answers are possible, and partial credit will be given.   A. A reporter gene can be engineered by transcriptional fusion where the reporter is fused to the promoter of the gene of interest so that regulatory proteins which activate the transcription of the the gene of interest will also...
