Gorilla glass:

manufacture:

During its manufacture, the glass is toughened by ion exchange. The material is immersed in a molten alkaline potassium salt at a temperature of approximately 400 °C (750 °F), wherein smaller sodium ions in the glass are replaced by larger potassium ions from the salt bath. The larger ions occupy more space and thereby create a surface layer of high residual compressive stress at the surface, giving the glass surface increased strength, ability to contain flaws, and overall crack-resistance, making it resistant to damage from everyday use.

composition:

Gorilla Glass contain silicon dioxide, aluminum, magnesium, and sodium.

cost:

Corning Gorilla glass is $3 THREE DOLLARS per phone.

Gorilla gets its strength through an interesting chemical process. Corning dips each sheet into a molten salt bath where a chemical exchange occurs. Potassium ions are infused into the glass. At the same time, sodium ions exit the glass. The potassium ions are larger than the sodium ions. This pressure creates what's called "compressive stress". That stress is actually a good thing and stops the glass from breaking on flaws.

Xensation:

Xensation Cover Glass, a break and scratch-resistant alumino-silicate.

composition: similar to gorilla glass

sapphire glass:

Synthetic sapphire is generally made by applying incredibly high heat and pressure to aluminum oxide powder (sapphire is, after all, just a compound of aluminum and oxygen). Heat-treated to remove its internal stresses—which can cause weakness—and processed into sheets, this synthetic sapphire is referred to as sapphire glass.

It’s the second hardest material in the world after diamond and the fact that it’s very hard to scratch means that it’s much less likely to break than competitors like Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail.

The hardness of a material is rated in Mohs, where talc is rated as 1 Mohs and diamond 10 Mohs. Glass ranks around 5.5 to 7 Mohs, butsapphire crystal has a hardness of 9 Mohs, making it only slightly lesshard than diamond.

dragontail glass:

Chemically strengthened Dragontrail is six times stronger than conventional soda-lime glass, highly resistant to scratches and features a beautiful, pristine finish compared with resin. Dragontrail is developed from market-proven raw glass for chemical strengthening.

compositio is same as gorilla glass.

All of them are alkali-aluminisilicates.

A Ti-doped sapphire laser emits at 800 nm and is mode-locked. It consists of a Ti-sapphire rod with refractive index 1.4 that is 10 cm long within a cavity that is 2 m in length (the laser pulses propagate in air except when passing through the rod). You can neglect the reflectivity of the rod surfaces, assuming they are coated with perfect anti-reflective coatings. The spectral width of the laser is 200 THz. What is the resulting pulse width, pulse...
