Describe examples of two different visual ads you have seen. What stood out to you in the advertisement? How did it catch your attention, and what did you notice only after a more careful examination? Was each advertisement persuasive?
Could the advertisement be expressed as a written argument instead? Do you think the visual argument is more persuasive than if the advertisement merely contained words without images? Why or why not?
Answer) First example is of a luxury salon where they displayed the visual message on occasion of Valentine's day,"This Valentine's,skip flowers and below that was advertisement for relaxing spa,for me it was amazing in the sense that they thought of something different from usual gifts, something where people can relax and rejuvenate on this special day,it caught my attention in the sense that it started with normal words; This Valentine's and then moved to a different concept altogether, after more careful examination,I found that appeal was very moving with onus on freshness and relaxation,it was both refreshing as well as a way to do something new on this occasion,it was definitely persuasive with its visual appeal as in it is inviting you to let go of all your worries.
Second example is of Pepsi Change the game wherein billboard had famous Chelsea Football club players and famous players of other sports popular in the country and campaign was built on different players try different sports,I think it cashed in on massive celebrities in one frame and this for me was what stood out, after more careful examination I noticed that logo of Pepsi was inserted very craftfully with different jerseys made of that logo colour,it was persuasive as one would always look at players they like.
Advertisement could be there as written argument but it would have to be extremely creative in order to be as effective as visual advertisement,I do believe that visual advertisement has a lot more appeal than written ones, reason being that they let you imagine, for example a person driving a sports car will invoke your imagination to drive one too more than if it is words,so that imagination behind visual appeal is the main driver prompting to you remember image and think about product.
