TED talk by Guy Wench. What is the main idea of his talk? What stood out to you the most?
Guy Winch is a licensed psychologist who works with individuals, couples and families. As an advocate for psychological health, he has spent the last two decades adapting the findings of scientific studies into tools his patients, readers and audience members can use to enhance and maintain their mental health. As an identical twin with a keen eye for any signs of favoritism, he believes we need to practice emotional hygiene with the same diligence with which we practice personal and dental hygiene. The one which stand out the most for me was how to practice emotional first aid. It states-
We sustain emotional injuries, like failure or rejection, just as often as we do physical ones like cuts and colds. There are science based techniques we can use to treat emotional injuries that can help soothe the distress they cause and prevent them from impacting our short and long-term psychological well-being. Guy Winch makes the case for practicing emotional hygiene— taking care of our emotions, our minds, with the same diligence we take care of our bodies.
In today's world where people's emotion and emotional health has no value Guy Winch tells us how we can self care about our emotion and how to let go the emotional baggage.
