Signal recognition particle
Once proteins are formed on the ribosomes in a Cell, they are targeted to their respective location. There are many compartments in a Eukaryotic cell. So every protein which is formed during translation contains a signal sequence at its terminal. The signal sequence is a set of a few amino acids which is responsible for the transportation of protein to its destined location. This signal sequence is recognised by signal recognition particle and then it is taken to its respective organelle.
For example, the signal sequence of proteins to be destined inside endoplasmic reticulum is KDEL and KKXX. If one of the two sequence is present in a protein, then it will be take into endoplasmic reticulum by signal recognition particle. Signal recognition particle is a protein which recognises a specific signal and then take the protein to its specific organelle. When the protein reaches its target organelle, signal peptidase enzyme cleave the signal sequence and the protein is then targeted for folding and maturation.
