Which of the following about mRNA transport in eukaryotes is true? And explain answer

a. proteins bind to mature mRNA at exon:intron boundaries

b. mRNA transport is not a highly regulated process

c. mature mRNA is transported out of the nucleus by passive transport

d. mature mRNA is associated with specific proteins that signal the mRNA for transport

Solutions

Expert Solution

d-option is correct

Transport of mRNA across the nucleus _

Only fully processed mRNA exported from nucleus to cytoplasm via the nuclear pore complex (npc) .Transport of fully proccesed mRNA require nuclear export factors and nuclear exporters along with RNA export factors they Combinally form a complex to transport mRNA out of nucleus. These factors require exon-exon junction. Helecase also participate in transport because RNA can not be transported in his tertiary structure hence RNA molecule are necessary be converted in to primary structure.

Mutation in splicing site also hempers transport an experiment shows that mutation in either 5'or 3' splicing site blocks RNA splicing as well as transport but mutation in both 5' and 3' splicing site prevent splicing but not transport of mRNA out of nucleus .This transport is less efficient the spliced mrna.

Which statement about DNA replication in eukaryotes is true? Group of answer choices Nucleotides are added from beginning to end of one strand, from 5' to 3', and then to the other strand. Errors that occur during DNA replication are repaired by DNA polymerase. DNA helicase adds nucleotides with complementary bases to the strand of DNA that is being synthesized. DNA replication only occurs in somatic cells. Nucleotides are added to the 5' end of the growing DNA strand.

Which of the following statements is true about transport of a small molecule across a lipid bilayer? select all correct answers. Transport of a small nonpolar molecule across bilayer can occur passively Channel proteins are needed for transit of any molecule across a bilayer Ions can only cross a bilayer through a channel/transporter Molecules must bind to a channel/transporter before crossing the bilayer Transit of a neutral molecule from low to high concentration requires energy input
