What are the impacts of COVID-19 on grab-and-go/convenience product sales for supermarkets?
Grab and go products are ready made meals which are essentially made for customers who are in a hurry in between workload and don't have time to cook. Now because of Covid-19, some customers are shying away from buying such products in supermarkets, because there is a health risk as they are not freshly made, plus consumers don't have a tight schedule anymore, only healthcare workers/grocery players are working currently which is a very less audience. On the other hand, because of restaurants being shut, this is acting as a quick snack mechanism for people who don't like cooking and acts as a quick meal. Thus all in all because of the economy shutting down there is surge in grab and go meals because people are working from home and want convenience as they have limited scope to order meals from restaurants.
Convenience products on the other hand are goods which consumers normally buy without thinking about the price, and are widely available such as newspapers, groceries, and everyday essential products which serve a wide market. These products are of necessity and thus wouldn't have suffered a huge dent in terms of product sales, the quantity of products bought must be low, as the supply would also be low, so there wouldn't be a huge difference in terms of sales, but sales of cleaning products have surged such as detergents, sanitizers as consumers are increasingly turning extra cautious in terms of hygiene.
