Expert Solution

The concept of ‘heterogeneity’ is much invoked in social science research especially in disciplines like psychology, sociology and anthropology and is now an integral part of economics in sub-disciplines like industrial organization, entrepreneurship, behavioral economics, and similar fields.

Heterogeneity is not something to be afraid of, it just means that there is variability in your data.

It is important to note that there are different types of heterogeneity:

  • Clinical: Differences in participants, interventions or outcomes
  • Methodological: Differences in study design, risk of bias
  • Statistical: Variation in intervention effects or results.

Once we have detected variability in our results we need to deal with it. Here are some method on how we can treat this issued.

  • Check our data for mistakes
  • Don’t do a meta-analysis if heterogeneity is too high
  • Perform a random effects meta-analysis
  • Changing the effect measures

Investigation 1: Electrostatic Forces In this investigation you will explore the nature of the electrostatic force between two electric charges. Using the simulation embedded below you will study the following: the dependence of the direction of the electrostatic force on the types of charges involved in the interaction the dependence of the magnitude of the force on the strength of the charges and the distance between them The simulation below shows two electric charges qA = 10x 10-4C (in red)...

Embedded within the terminology and computations of statistics is the scientific nature of knowing. The scientific method, and its application in hypothesis testing, can never “prove” that something is “true.” Instead, a hypothesis test indicates whether or not the sample outcomes we have observed are consistent with a particular theory or claim that is being made about the phenomenon under consideration. In 300-500 words explain how this statistical basis of “truth” compares to the “absolute truth” we’d prefer. Include in...
