Investigation 1: Electrostatic Forces
In this investigation you will explore the nature of the electrostatic force between two electric charges. Using the simulation embedded below you will study the following:
The simulation below shows two electric charges qA = 10x 10-4C (in red) and qB = -10x 10-4C (in blue) on a horizontal line separated by a distance d = 10m.
Each charge experience an electrostatic force acting on them as shown by the arrows applied on them. Go ahead an click on one of the charges and then drag it around. Pay attention to the forces acting on the two charges as you move one of them around.
Question 1: How does the orientation of the electrostatic forces change when you move one of the charges around? Do the forces of interaction maintain their initial horizontal direction? Please explain.
