Mr P is admitted to the ICU with cardiogenic shock. his physician orders a dopamine drip via infusion pump. Orders: Dobutamine 400mg in 250ml D5W to infuse at 6mcg/kg/min. mr P weigh 80 kg. what is the flow rate in ml/hr?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Orders dose (D) = 6 mcg/kg/ min

Dose in hand ( H) = 400 mg

Volume it is in ( Q) = 250 ml

In one minute we have to administer 6 mcg / kg

He is 80 kg

So in one minute it is 6× 80= 480 mcg/ min

480 mcg to ml

480 micrograms =0.48 milligram per min

So total time to infuse 250 ml will be 250/.48 = 520 minutes

So to infuse this it will take 8.6 hours in total that is 520 minutes

So ml/ hr = 250/8.6 =29 ml/ hr is the flow rate
