Why is descent with modification not sufficient to explain the variation in life forms (bacteria, whales, crabs, insects, etc.) we see today?
Descent with modification is simply darwins theory of evolution that states that parents of sexually reproducing organisms pass on traits to their offspring’s through the medium of gametes. However this evolutionary process is not sufficient to explain the praent biodiversity spread on planet earth because such a tremendous diversity from protozoa to chordates. Because biodiversity has evolved through different evolutionary processes like natural selection, genetic drift, mutation, recombination, non random matting, isolation etc. Natural selection selects individuals with favourable genome through survival of fittest and rejects unfavourable genomes. Adaptive radiations or Divergent evolution results in evolution of larger taxa or groups like arthropoda , amphibia, repltilia, aves and mammals etc. Thus descent with modification alone is not sufficient to explain the variation in life forms present.
