Two cylinders of oxygen are connected to each other by a valve. The first tank is 50 liters in volume and contains oxygen at 27 °C and a pressure of 140.37 kPa, and the corresponding values for the other tank are 30 liters, 89 °C and 62.73 kPa. If the valve connecting the tanks is opened and the tanks are allowed to reach some equilibrium condition with the temperature being 50 °C. Answer the following: (a) the equilibrium pressure, (b) the heat transfer between both tanks and the surroundings and the direction of the heat transfer, and (c) the internal energy in the final state if the tanks were insulated.
