Read this:

Cape Cod National Seashore officials have completed a draft shorebird management plan that proposes killing predators (primarily crows and coyotes) of the piping plover (a small endangered shorebird) so that they can open more areas for recreational users. The USDA could kill up to 50 animals in each of the first two years.

There are four alternative plans being proposed and The HSUS is recommending a version of Alternative D, which is the only proposal without lethal predator control. In 2010 our threat of litigation halted the planned crow poisoning and in 2011, Massachusetts residents were so outspoken on this issue that it halted the program again. Now, we need to show continued opposition.

Then:

you are to look into what has been done and what is currently being done to save the piping plover populations in the US, more specifically the Eastern seashore. After your research on plovers and two other organisms, do you feel as though humans should be stepping in to reduce the predators to help maintain the plover population? Why should we help any species? If these plovers and other organisms are not going to survive without human intervention, isn’t that evolution? Adaptation or extinction?

Background on plovers: range, habitat, reason for decline, what is currently being done to help? Is it a success or failure?

Plovers are not the only species that humans have set out to protect from extinction. Give information on two other organisms that humans have stepped in to help in some way. Background: range, habitat, reason for decline, current protections/what is being done. Success or failure?

Your educated opinion on whether we should help prevent organisms from going extinct or not.

Expert Solution

First and for most human should not intervene in between the natural food chain. Human intervention can help any specie to survive only for certain time limit. Survival of any population should be natural. An endanger specie should develop its defence mechanism or show some evolution to protect them .And if they cannot save themself from the predator they will get extinct.

Piping ploveris is a small, pale-colored North American shorebird. It got its name because of melodic mating call. Piping plover blends into the pale background of open, sandy habitat on outer beaches where it feeds and nests.Generally, piping plovers open sand, gravel, or cobble beaches for breeding. Breeding sites are generally found on islands, lakeshores, coastal shorelines, and river margins.

Predators ,human disturbance like commercial, residential, and recreational development, pets , storm ,tides e.t.c has effected their population to decline.

Conservation of Piping Plovers was the project taken up for their protection. It has help to increase the population to 10,000 adults .

Other 2 eg are like

1.Royal Bengal Tiger –habitat forest ,reason for decline is deforestation and human disturbance again.Protection –project tiger was started to protect the tiger .it has help to increase the population of tiger .

2.Sparrow-small birds foud in Africa ,Asia & Europe .Habitate-open habitat like grassland and desert . Reason for decline is deforestation ,human disturbance again and predators .protection –project sparrow in 2012.it has help to increase the sparrow count .

Most developed countries have some form of a national health plan. A number of possible plans have been proposed in the U.S. recently with price tags of upwards of $200 billion per year (depending on the extent of coverage). An important question in choosing among such plans is how their adoption will affect demand (moral hazard). The empirical question is how large the increase in demand might be. Estimates of the price elasticity of demand for medical services vary with...
