Which organelle would be high in quantity in the following cell types:

1. Pancreas cells: Smooth ER

2. Heart muscle cells:

3. Liver cells:

4. Plant leaf cells:

5. Macrophages (a type of white blood cell):

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans. 1.In Pancreatic cell: most abundant organelle is Rough endoplasmic reticulum & Golgi Apperatus .

Pancreatic acinar cells are highly specialised for digestive enzymes synthesis, storage ,and secretion . Cells of pancreas that produce the protein insulin ,have abundant rough endoplasmic reticulum . ,and also Golgi apparatus , ribosome , mitochondria , lysosome are present

& Beta cells of islet of Langerhans in pancreas contain many mitochondria because mitochondria generate metabolic signal which induce insulin secretion .

2.Heart muscle cell: most abundant organelle isMitochondria

The organelle that is most abundant in cardiac ( heart) muscle cell is Mitochondria .the heart muscle need energy to pump the blood throughout the body . So large no. Mitochondria is required to produce energy in form of ATP.

But also some other organelles present like ,alpha tubulin, beta tubulin, ER , Nucleus, Golgi Apperatus

3.liver cell: most abundant organelle is smooth endoplasmic reticulum & Mitochondria

The main organelle involve in the detoxication of cell is smooth endoplasmic reticulum .

Liver cell are highly regenerative and muscle cells spend high energy in contraction and expansion ,hence required high energy so , presence of high Mitochondria in liver cell & muscle cell.

4.plant leaf cell: most abundant organelle is chloroplast

Because it contain chlorophyll which helps in photosynthesis .

& Other organelles like cell wall : allow plant to have strong , upright ,vacoule: helps water regulation of storage of molecules plstids, Golgi Apperatus , endoplasmic reticulum & mitochondria .

5.Macrophages : abundant organelle is Lysosomes

Lysosome use their hydrolytic enzyme to destroy disease - causing organism that might enter the cell. ( Macrophages - white blood cell) .which are part of body's immune system .
