Cognitive psychology is one of the modern disciplines of psychology. It involves various branches of study including the studies related to memory, attention, perception, language use and problem-solving among others. In simple terms, cognitive psychology is essentially the study of how we think, how the information is perceived, interpreted and stored.

Miller and Neisser have contributed to developing this modern discipline of psychology. While Miller is widely regarded as the father of cognitive psychology pertaining to his work on working memory. While the differentiation of memory into short-term and long-term was present since a long time; Miller came up with the magical number 7 to quantify the way in which we think about short-term memory.
Neisser has also made significant contributions to cognitive psychology. He was also a proponent of adopting ecological ways of studying psychology. He contributed significantly in the fields of attention, perception and problem-solving.
