SCENARIO
A deck of 40 cards contains a different image on each (nature scenes, head shots on individuals, etc.). Imagine that your task is to recall in a general way each image. Apart from repetition, list three encoding procedures you might use for memorizing them, providing for each procedure a brief example of how you would use it with cards such as these.

After several hours of effort, you finally can recite the deck without error. You celebrate with a friend and a glass of your preferred refreshment. Then what would you do to increase the chances of successful recall the next day?
1. Link method
Procedure: Here the subject should make sure that the images are linked to one or the other way. When the image is shown, the subject has to imagine the picture. With the addition of the image, the subject has to associate the images with each other. Also, the subject should have a coherent location in mind to put all the image in a proper context, and also make sure that some way is provided to different the images.
Example: an image of a mountain, a girl taking a photograph, and a fisherman is showed to the subject for recall. Therefore, the person image of the place Kerala, where there is a beautiful scenic beauty near an ocean. The subject will imagine a fisherman near the ocean and the girl taking a picture of that. These will help in bringing better recall.
2, Mnemonics
Procedure: It takes about making codes of the images to improve better recall. Here the subject should come up with unique codes that will help in recalling the particular image again.
Example: When the image of elephant, Banana, aeroplane, and nest is seen. The subject can take all the first letter of the images (eban) and come up with a word 'bean'. This will help in better recall.
3. The Roman room system
Procedure: Here the person is suppose to imagine the images to be in the his/her room. This can be pictures hanging around the room.
Examples: If the subject has to recall the words spectacles, a Muslim woman, flowers, and a village. The subjecy can imagine her room to have a protriat of a village, a book on a Muslim women near her bed, a flower vest with her favourite lilies and her spectacles on her table.
For successful recall the next day, the person has to go through all the images in the morning. Memory retention is always better in the morning. Also, the subject should try the method which was best suited for him/her for other recall processes.
