What does BiDil have to do with personalized medicine?
Personalized medicine is a medicine that uses information about persons owns genes to treat disease. and these personalized medicines are important as they use patients' unique genetic makeup to treat specific diseases. we all know we all have different genetic makeup but still use the same traditional medicines to treat all humans. but personalized medicine creates treatments that are applicable to a group of individual who has similar characteristics or applicable for treatment for every unique patient.
BiDil is medicine or drug which is mainly used for the treatment of heart failure in black people. it is a combination of isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine which is given to the patient in fixed-dose. it normally widens the blood vessels, making blood flow easy. FDA has approved BiDil as personalized medicine for a particular group of people. the study is conducted where this drug is given to men ( both white and black). but data showed the improvement in mortality in black patients but no effect on white people. so after analyzing data FDA indicated this personalized medicine only limited to black people.
