1. Name two reasons why organisms need cell division
. 2. What is a genome? 3. Describe chromatin.
4. Contrast somatic cells with gamete cells. Give an example of each.
5. Draw a picture of sister chromatids attached together by a centromere.
6. Contrast mitosis with cytokinesis .
1. The first division of cell division is the growth of the organism, especially important for multicellular organisms. The second reason is the repair of injuries and replacement of old and worn out cells.
2. Genome is the total amount of genetic material present in a cell at a given time. It not only includes nuclear DNA, but it also includes mitochondria and chloroplast DNA.
3. Chromatin is the loosely arrange thread like structure of DNA which is the predominant form of DNA during interphase.
4. Somatic cells are diploid whereas gametes are haploid.
Somatic cells are responsible for the growth and maintenance of normal body of an individual where as gametes are involved in reproductive processes.
Cell of an eye is somatic cell and sperm and egg are gametes.
5.
6. Mitosis is nuclear division whereas cytokinesis is the division of cytoplasm.
