With globalisation and modernisation, people from different cultures, groups or ethnicity reside together in the society. This is known as multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is an important factor to keep in mind while framing health promotion programmes.
The three reasons for multiculturalism being a salient concern in health promotion are :

1. Linguistic differences: people ftom different cultures speak different languages and might have problem understanding some languages. It is important to build a healthcare promotion programme that can be understood by all so a language that is known to all must be chosen for the programme.
2. Socio economic differences : people from different cultures will have different socio economic status. It is important to develop health promotion programmes that are affordable and accessible to all.
3. Different health concerns in multiculturism : People from different cultures have different health concerns. People from particular group may have increased risk to develop a certain disease while others may have risk to develop some other disease. It is important to identify health needs of the people living in the society and to develop the health promotion programme that will effectively address their needs.
